Earlier this week, video streaming giant YouTube announced the launch of Community where video creators and viewers can now connect more easily and share a more personal experience on the platform, pushing the platform further into the social networking realm.
The brand new Community tab gives artists a new and simple way to engage with fans whilst also allowing to express themselves beyond video. Video creators can interact with viewers and fans with more diverse creatives such as text, live videos, images, animated GIFs and more, giving easier, lightweight ways to engage with fans more often in between uploads, in real time. Viewers will be able to see all posts within the Subscriptions feed on their phones. They can also opt into getting a notification anytime the artist posts, keeping them constantly updated on the favourite content.
The release of Community also sees a deep product collaboration between YouTube and it’s dedicated video creators. The company started by inviting creators in early to develop, in partnership with the team, the tools they wanted to better engage with their fans allowing the new feature to be customised from a video creator and first hand user perspective. Some of these creators include the likes of VSauce3,The Game Theorists, John & Hank Green and many more.
